(KTTS News) — Springfield Police say the driver of a pickup died this morning when he lost control on East Trafficway, ran off the road, and hit a tree.
The crash happened just before 2 a.m. at 935 East Trafficway.
Police say 27-year-old Luis Ocampo Venegas from Springfield died at the scene.
A passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

On Nov. 10, 2023, at 1:49 a.m., officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash at 935 E. Trafficway.
Luis Ocampo Venegas, 27, from Springfield, was driving a white 2021 Ram 1500 truck eastbound on Trafficway when he lost control, ran off the north side of the road and hit a tree on the east side.
Ocampo Venegas died at the scene. Ocampo Venegas’ family has been notified.
A passenger in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
This was Springfield’s 24th fatal motor vehicle crash in 2023.
