(KTTS News) — First responders will go door to door in Sparta this Saturday installing free smoke alarms.

Volunteers and members of the American Red Cross of Southern Missouri, along with the Sparta Fire Protection District and Christian County CERT will team up to install those smoke alarms as part of the Sound the Alarm event.

Crews will work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is National Fire Prevention Week.

On Thursday, The Home Builders Association Charitable Foundation donated 650 smoke alarms to be handed out by local area fire departments as a part of the Home Builders for Fire Safety Campaign.

The smoke alarms were donated to the Republic, Fair Grove, Willard, Ozark, Nixa, Logan-Rogersville, Ebenezer, Strafford, and Battlefield Fire Departments.
