(KTTS News) — Up to four inches of snow is expected to fall across the Ozarks Thursday as temperatures drop, ushering in wind chills as cold as -35 degrees.
A quick burst of snow and rain could hit the Springfield area by 6 a.m. Thursday.
After that, there could be a break before temperatures drop.
With even a little bit of moisture on the road as temps drop, that could cause flash freezing and make driving dangerous.
Snow is expected to start falling sometime late Thursday morning into Thursday afternoon.
The storm could also cause scattered power outages.
National Weather Service meteorologist Shelby Melto says wind chills will be the main threat.
“The main concern continues to be those life-threatening wind chills, as cold as -30 to -35 degrees, especially as we head into Thursday night and Friday morning.”
The National Weather Service says over the last 75 years, there have only been seven days where the wind chill was -30 or colder.
The last time that happened was in 1989.
