A man from Joplin is charged with assaulting a Joplin Police officer over the weekend.
Police say Michael C. Yarga, 34, is charged with 3rd degree assault and resisting or interfering with arrest, detention or stop.
Police contacted three people in an alley at 9th and Connor Saturday night.
Yarga ran off, and assaulted an officer near 10th and Chestnut.
A second officer shot Yarga, wounding him.
Police say Yarga is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.
He’s being guarded by police.
The officer he assaulted was treated and released from the hospital.
