Police Identify Woman Killed In Crash Near Evangel

Springfield Police have identified a woman who died when her car crashed Thursday night in front of Evangel University.

Police say 32-year-old Leah Renae Greshem from Springfield was speeding and weaving between other vehicles before her car ran off the road and hit a utility pole.

It rolled over, hit a tree, and caught fire.

On Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 8:46 p.m., Springfield police were dispatched to 1111 N Glenstone after a car struck a tree.

The initial investigation indicated a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Glenstone from Division. The driver of the Malibu maneuvered between several other vehicles before losing control and veering off the road to the right. The vehicle struck a utility pole, rolled, and then struck a tree in front of Evangel University.

The driver, and sole occupant, identified as 32-year-old Leah Renea Gresham from Springfield, was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Officers have notified Gresham’s family.

Officers with SPD’s Traffic Section are continuing to investigate the circumstances involved in the crash and are asking anyone who has additional information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810.

This is the thirteenth fatality motor vehicle crash in Springfield in 2021.
