Running 4 Heroes Honors Injured Greene County Deputy With $10,000 Grant

Running 4 Heroes is honoring a local Greene County deputy that was injured in a pursuit back in 2020.

On December 11th, 2020, Lt. Westbrook deployed spikes to stop a vehicle involved in a pursuit.

Lt. Westrbook was outside of his vehicle in order to deploy the spike strip.

The suspect hit Lt. Westbrook’s vehicle at a high speed, pushing the patrol vehicle into him.

Lt. Westbrook, a 24-year veteran of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, suffered multiple broken bones and had his first round of surgeries that night.

He was released from the hospital just before Christmas, but faces a lengthy road to recovery.

Board Members of Running 4 Heroes will visit Missouri on Saturday, May 22 to present Lt. Westbrook with the $10,000 grant.

Running 4 Heroes is a non-profit in Florida founded by 12-year old Zechariah Cartledge.

The mission of Running 4 Heroes is to raise funds for injured First Responders across the nation, while also paying tribute to Fallen Heroes through running.

During a run for a fallen hero, Zechariah runs with a flag.

He then presents that flag he ran with to the first responder family in which he ran for.

Zechariah has honored several officers in the 417, including fallen Springfield officer Christopher Walsh.
