Two newly elected Springfield City Council members will be sworn in at tonight’s council meeting.
Newly elected Angela Romine will replace Phyllis Ferguson in Zone 1, and Heather Hardinger will replace Jan Fisk as the General Seat A representative.
Romine and Hardinger will join reelected Mayor Ken McClure, Zone 4 Councilman Matthew Simpson and General Seat B Councilman Craig Hosmer in the swearing-in ceremony and will be seated on the council to hear the first-reading bills on the agenda.
Hardinger is the first woman of color to serve on City Council.
She most recently served as chair of the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights & Community Relations.
Romine is an Army Veteran and small business owner in Springfield.

Two outgoing members will also take their final actions and exit the council at the meeting tonight.
Outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Zone 1 Councilwoman Phyllis Ferguson and General Seat A Councilwoman Jan Fisk will vote on the second-reading and new business items on the agenda during their last meeting.
Neither Fisk nor Ferguson sought reelection in the April 6 election.
