It was a year ago today that a man drove his car into a Springfield gas station, then shot and killed a Springfield Police officer and three others before killing himself.
There’s now a memorial in place at the Kum n’ Go where the shooting happened.
Police say Joaquin Roman, 31, crashed into the Kum n’ Go at Chestnut and Prince Lane on March 16, 2020.
He then went inside and shot Troy D. Rapp, 57, Shannon R. Perkins, 46, and Matthew Hicks, 22.
All three were from Springfield.
Rapp worked at the Kum and Go store.
Perkins worked for WCA Waste Corporation.
Roman shot Officer Christopher Walsh and Officer Josiah Overton when they arrived on the scene.
Walsh died.
Overton was wounded but survived.
When more officers arrived, they found Roman dead from a self-inflicted wound.
