Willard Fire Department Forced to Cover More With Fewer Men

Firefighters in Willard are facing increased pressure from COVID-19 pandemic.

Fire Chief Ken Scott says most firefighters are volunteers and have stayed home out of fear of COVID-19. Around 2/3rds of the normal crew are gone.

Call volume has gone up by 25%. Chief Scott says many calls are unrelated to fires and instead focus on medical needs, since people are afraid to go to a doctor.

He and his crew are responsible for around 70 square miles of territory.
