A recount of the votes in the race for the 135th district state representative seat is underway Thursday in Springfield.
The mandated recount came after Democrat Betsy Fogle finished 80 votes ahead of Republican incumbent Steve Helms.
Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller says the Missouri Code of State Regulations calls for a manual recount anytime the percentage margin of difference is equal to or less than one half of one percent.
The difference in the 135th is .45% per the current vote total.
The ballots are being tabulated at University Plaza Convention Center.
The recount, which should be wrapped up by Friday, is open to the public.
