(Springfield’s News Talk 104.1) – Springfield city leaders convened to discuss and approve an incentive aimed at attracting more Springfield Police Officers.
The new incentive entails offering recruits a hiring bonus and a student loan reimbursement plan.
Recruits will be granted a $5,000 bonus upon joining the force, while officers transferring from another department will receive $10,000.
The department also plans to provide a student loan reimbursement plan for new officers with existing student loan debt.
Eligible individuals stand to receive up to $2,500 per year for five years, with a maximum total reimbursement of $12,500.
The department aims to fill 50 positions.
