(Springfield’s News Talk 104.1) – Two individuals were apprehended in Springfield after attempting to tamper with multiple ATMs.

Matthew Bressman and Brandie Miller were arrested for causing first-degree property damage.

According to police, both suspects were captured on camera while they were closing the shutter door of the machine with glue.

This act is known as “cash trapping”. The suspects prevent the cash-dispensing slot from opening by gluing it shut, so the cash cannot be retrieved by customers. When the customers leave, assuming the ATM is out of order, the suspects return, pry the slot open, and steal the money that is inside.

Bressman confessed to his crime and accepted a plea deal, which resulted in him being sentenced to six years in prison.
