(Springfield’s News Talk 104.1) – A man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and second-degree burglary Tuesday for the murder of 74-year-old James Woods.

Jacob DeJong was sentenced to 12 years for his manslaughter charge and seven years for his burglary charge.

DeJong will serve the sentences concurrently.

DeJong was originally charged with second-degree murder and burglary after attacking James Woods at his apartment on Aug. 25, 2021.

Woods later died from his injuries.

His murder charge was amended in October 2023 to a voluntary manslaughter charge.

DeJong is also being charged with two counts of second-degree domestic assault in Billings after being accused of choking a family member and kicking a pregnant woman in two separate incidents in Dec. 2023.

DeJong was out on a $150,000 bond when the incidents occurred.

A hearing for the domestic assault charges is scheduled for February 27.
