(KTTS News) — A man who fired a shot at a Polk County deputy and set fire to his own home has been committed to the Department of Mental Health.
A judge ruled Andrew K. Sims is not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
Sims went on a rampage in December 2022 after a fight with his wife.
He fired a shot at a deputy who responded to the scene and later tried to get in the home of some neighbors.
He was arrested after he went into a wooded area.
He told deputies he was so mad after the fight with his wife that he wanted to burn the house down.
The man’s wife got out of the home safely.
