(KTTS News) An autopsy is scheduled today for a Joplin man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Christmas Eve.

According to a press release, police received a call of a suicidal man at a house off Vandalia Street in Joplin.

The man told dispatchers he was armed with a gun, made suicidal statements, and requested officers to respond to his address.

When police arrived on scene, the man was in the front yard. Police say shots were fired, and the man suffered gunshot wounds.

Medical aid was rendered by police until EMS arrived on scene. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The victim was identified as 58-year-old James Fischer.

The Joplin Police Department confirmed that two Joplin Police Officers discharged their weapons during the incident and that no officers were injured.

The two officers are on paid administrative leave, and the police department has asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to investigate the shooting.
