Press Release from City of Springfield

Mayor Ken McClure and City Council send sincere condolences to the family of former Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Wooten, who passed away this morning.

A 1945 graduate of Springfield Central High School, Wooten went on to serve on the City Council from General Council Member from 1983-1984, as Zone 1 City Council member from 1985-1988, and Mayor Pro Tem from 1987-1988.

He represented Greene County District 137 in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1988 to 1996 and also served in the Navy for three years before a 34-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.

“What people will remember most of about Chuck was his many contributions to his community – a lifetime of public service,” said Mayor McClure. “The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield would not be a reality without Chuck Wooten. He was a wonderful, caring person committed to public service.”
