I volunteered to help friends who were putting on an “Endurance Ride” at Froggy’s River Resort near Richland.

These folks ‘race’ 25, 35, even 50 miles .. in a day! The riders were in the saddle 8 to 10 hours, with only brief stops. My job was to collect ribbons each had to turn in to be sure they rode the entire route. Also to check each riders horse number to make sure all had finished the course safely. I was also one of the ‘water’ stops where horses could drink. Many were given electrolytes at the stop, and the riders loved my ice cold watermelon! Let me tell you, these people Love Their Horses .. Their Partners! I was impressed. 

Most ride Arabians, who are athletic and can absorb the long ride much better than other breeds. 

I was asked if I thought about getting into “Endurance” riding. Without question, my answer was “NO” .. I don’t think I could take it!       I walked away very impressed with both horses and their riders. These folks are tough .. TOUGH!
