(KTTS News) — A former Missouri State University professor is in on trial this week for stabbing a fellow professor to death.
Edward Gutting is charged with breaking into retired professor Marc Cooper’s Springfield home in 2016.
Court records say Gutting stabbed Cooper to death and attacked his wife, Nancy, when she tried to stop him.
Police say Gutting was drunk at the time.
Prosecutors say Gutting held a grudge against Cooper because he wasn’t hired to replace him when he retired.
Cooper’s wife took the stand Monday and told the court that Gutting threatened to kill her if she got in his way.
Gutting was deemed unfit for trial in 2019, but in 2020 his case was cleared to proceed.
