(KTTS News) — Springfield Police are investigating a threatening phone call made to McGregor Elementary School on Thursday.

McGregor, which is near Madison and Fort, was locked down.

More officers were called in when classes were dismissed.

The district released the following information to parents:

Message #2 – 1:45 p.m. on Thursday:

This is an update regarding the earlier message for McGregor Elementary. All students and staff are safe. Springfield Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into the source of the call. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence on campus through dismissal today; otherwise, dismissal will proceed as usual and at the regularly scheduled time. In the meantime, our school schedule is proceeding without interruption. We appreciate the prompt and professional response by law enforcement. The safety of our students and staff is our priority and we are committed to responding appropriately when we are made aware of a possible threat or concern. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we investigated the situation today.

Message #1 – 12:50 p.m. on Thursday:

This is an important safety message from Springfield Public Schools about your child’s school. We want to let you know that school police and other law enforcement are currently at your child’s school in response to a threatening phone call received by the school office. The investigation, while ongoing, has found nothing of concern. Students and staff are safe. The building is currently locked down as law enforcement continues to investigate. We encourage everyone to remain calm as this report is fully investigated. When we have more facts to share, we will update you immediately. In the meantime, we ask that you do not come to the school. Thank you for your understanding as we respond to this situation.
