(KTTS News) — Things got a little heated Monday night as people packed the Springfield City Council meeting to sound off on two issues — the city’s plans to buy Hammons Field and the Hotel of Terror.
The city says it wants to use eminent domain to tear down the Hotel of Terror and make way for its planned Renew Jordan Creek project.
The city says it has negotiated with the owner for three years to try and buy the property.
But the owner says he can’t afford to sell it for what the city is offering.
KY3 says city council also heard comments from people on both sides of a plan to buy Hammons Field and keep the Springfield Cardinals in town.
Council is expected to make a final decision on whether to buy Hammons Field during a luncheon on February 14.
Council members will vote on whether to condemn the Hotel of Terror in two weeks.
