(KTTS News) — The city of Springfield wants short-term rentals to start paying a lodging tax just like hotels do.

Hotels pay the five-percent lodging tax on top of the sales tax.

The city says almost half of all short-term rentals in the city aren’t registered, so they don’t pay sales taxes.

The city wants to fix that, and then add on the lodging tax.

It could bring the city an extra $365,000 a year.
