The City of Springfield will apply for a federal grant to rehabilitate the historic Jefferson Avenue Footbridge.
Springfield City council gave the go ahead Monday night to apply for the $8-million dollar grant.
The bridge has been closed since 2016 because of safety concerns.
The bids that came back in December were almost double the estimated cost of the project.
