This December may be the hottest December for the Springfield area in over a century.
The National Weather Service says temperatures are averaging around 48 degrees, with only ten days this month with temperatures below freezing, and 13 days with temperatures peaking in the 60s.
If the trend holds, this will be the hottest December in Springfield since 1889.
National Weather Service meteorologists anticipate the remaining days of December will be 5 to 10 degrees above the average.
