Springfield Police say officers shot and killed a man Thursday afternoon at some apartments on East Norton Road, just east of the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.
Officers were responding to shots heard outside the apartment complex.
When they arrived, they found a man armed with a rifle trying to break into an apartment.
Police ordered him to drop his weapon.
But the man pointed the rifle at officers, and they opened fire, killing him.
KY3 says police tried to revive him, but he died at the hospital.
Police aren’t sure why he was trying to get into that apartment.
