The Missouri State Highway Patrol has added trooper Zachary T. Costley to its “Sworn Team Member of the Month” page for December.

Trooper Costley was named after his work in an investigation involving a suspected kidnapping attempt.

The MSHP says Costley pulled a vehicle over during a traffic stop on Highway 65 in Taney County on August 8th, but eventually called for backup when the driver refused to identify himself.

Backup arrived and the driver resisted arrest.

After obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, Costley found several zip ties, duct tape, a bat, and a stun gun. A subsequent search warrant for the driver’s phone found he and his wife were allegedly conspiring to kidnap their children from a foster home.

“Zachary’s vigilance and ability to recognize certain criminal behaviors and then take immediate, necessary action most likely prevented a serious violent crime from occurring” the Missouri State Highway Patrol said on their website.
