Afternoon heat index readings could hit 110 degrees in some places.
The National Weather Service says there are some chances for severe storms today, mainly in central Missouri.
A few strong/severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and this evening. Strong or damaging winds will be the main risk. Lightning/brief heavy rainfall rates will also occur.
