Springfield Police have released new information in Tuesday’s officer-involved shooting.
Officers doing surveillance followed John Hilt, 36, from Springfield in his vehicle to the Kum and Go at Highway 65 and Kearney.
Hilt was a person of interest in a homicide Monday at 3231 West Page.
The officers tried to arrest him for an outstanding warrant from Christian County, but Hilt pulled a gun and fired several shots.
Police returned fire, hitting the man in the vehicle who was with him.
His injuries were not life-threatening.
A woman who was also in the vehicle was not hurt.
Hilt drove off, leaving the wounded man behind.
Police arrested Hilt this morning after he came out of the Welcome Inn motel near Glenstone and I-44.
He had gunshot wounds from the shootout with police.
His injuries aren’t life-threatening.

One man is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in east Springfield.
Springfield Police went to the Kum & Go near Highway 65 and Kearney Tuesday afternoon to question someone who was wanted.
Investigators say shots were fired at police.
Officers fired back, hitting one man.
A second man drove off.
Police then surrounded the Welcome Inn motel near Glenstone and I-44.
Police arrested a second man early this morning after he came out of a room.
Police say he appeared to have been grazed by a bullet wound to the neck.
