The city of west plains is under a boil order after the city water treatment plant lost disinfectant for four hours on Thursday.
A coil of hose kinked under a vacuum, causing chlorine levels in the water to drop below Department of Natural Resources recommended levels.
The system failure was fixed within an hour, but it took another four before the residual levels of chlorine had reached acceptable levels.
The city will test the water daily, and anticipates some result by the late weekend.
