Expect traffic delays on James River Freeway and the highway 65 interchange as a large-scale widening and redesign project begins today.
The plan consists of several different projects that MoDOT hopes to accomplish in the next 14 months.
- Addition of a lane in the Route 60 median between National and Highway 65.
- Consolidation of the Glenstone and Republic ramps to eastbound Route 60 at Harvard Avenue, and removing the existing eastbound on-ramp near Nature Center Way.
- Construction of a roundabout on Glenstone at the intersection with Nature Center Way
- Widening the westbound Route 60 off ramp onto Glenstone.
- Replacing the Deteriorating pavement on eastbound Route 60, west of Highway 65.
To the right you can see a CGI rendering of the finished roundabout project.
MoDOT expects the entire project to last until May of next year and notes that no additional property will be needed to complete the improvements. MoDOT expects the project to impact traffic in several ways.
- Traffic will be shifted on Route 60 between National and Highway 65.
- Lanes will be narrowed.
- Lanes may be closed at night on Route 60.
- Drivers are advised not to pass in the work zone due to the narrowed driving lanes.
- Drivers will have to slow down for crews and equipment.
MoDOT advises finding an alternate route if possible. The project conclusion is set for May of 2022, but weather and/or construction delays could push that date back.
