The Greene County Sheriff says there were more weapons violations, assaults, and robberies in 2020 compared to previous years.
Weapons violations increased by 136% and robberies went up by 66%. Assaults went up by 8%. It’s repeat offenders, the Sheriff says.
He describes the biggest problem as the corrections department. He says probation and parole are not working and many criminals are leaving prison without serving their full time.
He says when the new jail opens the Sheriff’s Office will be better equipped to protect the community.
