Two K-9 units are joining CoxHealth’s security team.
The dogs, named Hugo and Astley, cost over $150,000 to recruit and train. The German Shepherds are trained to sniff out missing people, find bombs, and help prevent workplace violence.
One of the dogs is able to sniff out 21 different types of bombs.
CoxHealth says workplace assaults are up by 19% in the past two years, and K-9 units have been shown in some studies to reduce incidents of workplace violence by around 40%.
