A man has been charged in the death of a woman from Republic.
Shane Mackey, from Aurora, faces second-degree murder charges. Mackey has been arrested seven times prior for domestic assault from 2002 to 2013.
Rachel Sanders was found on floor of a house by officers who came to give a well-being check. Her Republic home was found in disarray, with glass and blood in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom.
Mackey was found attempting to give her CPR.
Investigators say Mackey gave inconsistent answers as to what happened and how he found Sanders. He told investigators he found her bloody in the home. He said she refused to let him take her to the hospital because she didn’t have insurance. She reportedly asked for a glass of water around 4:30 a.m., but Mackey also told officers he woke up at 5 a.m.
