Man Hospitalized with Gunshot Wound In Springfield

A man is in the hospital after being shot in the neck Sunday in Springfield.

The victim’s injuries were discovered just after noon after a three vehicle crash near National and Grand, but that’s not where the shooting happened.

The victim is in stable but critical condition.

At around 12:34, a Springfield Police officer witnessed a car crash between three vehicles near the intersection on National and Grand. As the officer approached the scene, the driver of a white Arcadia left the vehicle and fled eastbound. A passenger of the Arcadia, estimated age 17-18, got out of the car and motioned to the officer that he was injured.

The officer attempted to help the victim, and called for EMS.

Police say the gunshot was connected to a prior assault at Silver Springs Park on North Hampton. Police blocked off multiple streets from Grand and Belmont before determining the location of the assault.

They are currently investigating the scene.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 911 to let them know.

Authorities do not believe there is an immediate danger to the public.
