Parent Charged With Threat At Ozark Junior High School

A man from Ozark is charged with making a terrorist threat for some statements he made that forced the Ozark Junior High School to go on lockdown Tuesday morning.

Kenneth Russell Hicks is the parent of a student at the school.

He’s charged with 2nd degree making a terrorist threat and is being held in the Christian County jail.

The Christian County sheriff says Hicks was upset that his son was being bullied and told the school if they didn’t take care of it, he would shoot everyone in the office.

On September 29, 2020, Ozark School Deputies were dispatched to contact a citizen who had information about a person who had made statements about committing a shooting at the Ozark Junior High school.

The responding Deputy made contact with the reporting party. It was learned a parent of a student was upset about his son being bullied at school. The parent made statements indicating if the school did not take care of the situation, he would go to the school and shoot all the people in the office.

Deputies began an investigation and were able to identify the parent. School officials were notified of the potential threat at this time. It was confirmed the subject making the threat did in fact have a child attending the Ozark Junior High School. The Junior High was placed into lockdown based upon the threat and until the suspect could be located. At approximately 0845 hours on September 29, 2020, Deputies located the suspect and interviewed him about the threatening statements. As the result of the interview, the subject was arrested for Making a Terroristic Threat and was booked into the Christian County Jail.

On September 30, 2020 the Christian County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges on the suspect identified as Kenneth Russell Hicks of Ozark, MO for Making a Terrorist Threat 2nd Degree. Hicks is currently held in the Christian County Jail on $100,000 bond.

It should be noted that Deputies acted quickly and effectively to ensure the safety of our children and the schools.
