Habitat For Humanity Restore Reopens With New Guidelines

The Habitat For Humanity Restore in Springfield is reopening after nearly a month of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A spokeswoman for the Habitat says the Restore was given a go-ahead to open, with extra guidelines before the statewide stay-at-home order expires, when a re-clarification with the City of Springfield deemed the Restore an ‘essential’ business because it is a home supply store.

KTTS News talked to a spokeswoman from the City of Springfield and was told the Restore has been considered an essential business since the stay-at-home orders began.

The Restore says the choice to close when the orders started came after a recommendation from Habitat For Humanity International, citing public and worker’s health.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Habitat for Humanity ReStore (ReStore) in Springfield will reopen on Tuesday, April 28th after receiving clarification from the City of Springfield that it is considered an essential business. The ReStore accounts for more than 50% of Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri’s (HFHS) funding and helps pay for general operating expenses including salaries, building costs, insurance, and still provides a significant portion of program costs. In the past, April has been one of the stores busiest months. While being closed in part of March and most of April the store lost an estimated $5,000 revenue a day.

The ReStore will be introducing new hours to help with staffing and volunteer availability. The stores new hours are: Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00am-5:30pm

Upon reopening, the ReStore will accept donation drop-offs, and requests that donors review a list of accepted and not accepted items at habitatspringfieldmo.org. Please call the ReStore at 417-829-4001 before bringing donations to the ReStore. For the safety of staff and donors, the ReStore will not offer donation pickup service until further notice.

The ReStore will introduce new operation standards to help staff and customers adhere to social distancing safety guidelines.

New guidelines include:

● Limiting the number of customers in the store at any given time. An employee will be
tracking how many customers and employees are inside at any given time.
● Having hand sanitizer available and requesting customers sanitize before entering the
facility.
● Sanitizing common areas more frequently.
● Placing signs throughout the store to remind customers to stay 6 feet apart at any given
time.
