The Kitchen incorporated has lost some funding for 2019 and 2020 after a state review found that it had improperly used grant money.

According to documents used by the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC), the Springfield-based Kitchen Inc. used 18,000 dollars of an ES grant to pay for overpriced apartments, apartments with habitability issues, and other problems.

The Kitchen Inc. CEO says that the issue was caused by two employees who have resigned or have been terminated. She says that the two were out of the non-profit in week after they received the information.

The misuse of ESG was brought to the attention of the MHDC by a whistleblower, who pointed out specific details that had passed by inspection by Springfield audits.

The Kitchen says they are willing to comply with whatever the MHDC recommends and put the incident behind them.
