Students in Springfield will get an extra 11 days of summer vacation next year, but will make up for it with a shorter winter break and going to class later in May.
The Springfield R-12 School Board has approved the district’s 2020-21 calendar, with an August 24th start date.
It reflects a change in state law requiring districts to not begin the school year any earlier than two weeks prior to Labor Day.
The last day of class is scheduled for Friday, May 28th, 2021, but it could be as early as May 20th, depending on weather.
