Officials have confirmed that two people have died during the recent 48-hour spike in overdose cases in Springfield.
All the cases came from between Wednesday and Friday. Twenty people total were treated for overdoses during that time.
The Springfield Fire Department held an emergency meeting on Thursday to address plans to deal with the situation.
From the beginning of the year until October 16th, Springfield has seen 42 overdose deaths.
