There’s a heavy police presence in the area of National and Division in Springfield Monday morning.

Officers have surrounded a home in that neighborhood.

The police activity comes just hours after an overnight attempted armed robbery at the nearby Kum & Go.

The holdup was reported at 2:14 a.m.

A police spokesman tells KTTS News the suspect used a knife to attempt to rob the clerk.

Then, officers got word the man was in a home across the street from the store and police have been trying to get him to surrender.

Witnesses say the man walked out of the house and onto the front porch, where he sat down.

We’ve had no reports of injuries and the store is open for business.
