The Highway Patrol reports that a child has died after falling into a drainage ditch on Saturday morning.
John Wheeler, 13, of Carl Junction fell into a strong current flowing into the ditch at around 9 a. m.
His body was later recovered by Joplin Police Department and pronounced dead at the scene.
