Two In Jail After High Speed Chase In Greene County

Two people have been arrested after a high speed chase between Springfield and Strafford Saturday night.

Greene County deputies say they spotted a truck, they believe was stolen, speeding and driving carelessly. When they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped off.

A Highway Patrol helicopter that was working on a different project at the time was able to follow the suspect and watch as the vehicle headed toward Strafford from Springfield.

Authorities say the suspect stopped in Strafford and deputies approached the vehicle, but the driver took off, running a deputies patrol car off the road.

The GCSO says a Strafford police officer shot his weapon at the vehicle and hit it. Authorities also used tools to deflate the tires.

The driver then headed back towards Springfield and was driving slow until crashing into a pole on Packer Road.

The driver then ran from the scene and stole a Coca Cola semi-truck. Authorities say the suspect crashed into other Coca Cola vehicles before he was finally taken into custody.

A news release described the suspect as combative.

A second person, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also taken into custody.

Deputies say they think was impaired. They’ve been taken to the Greene County jail with charges pending.

The Greene County Sheriff, Jim Arnott, said in a news release “This was an excellent, cooperative effort between several agencies that resulted in the removal of another impaired driver from the streets of Greene County.”
