Two women were killed in separate crashes in the Ozarks Thursday.

The Highway Patrol says the first happened around 12:45 p.m., when an SUV lost control on westbound I-44 just west of Halltown.

Karen Janak, 66 from Shriner, Texas, died at the scene. She was a passenger in the SUV and was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver suffered serious injuries.

The second crash happened at 4:20 p.m. on Highway 96 southwest of Miller.

Troopers say Brittany Barker was killed when she went across traffic to pass another vehicle. She went onto the opposite shoulder and was hit by a truck as she came back onto the roadway.

Brittany was 27 and from Ozark.
