Substitute Teacher Banned For Racist Remark At Springfield School

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri school district says a substitute teacher was escorted out of a school after he was accused of making racist and threatening comments to two black students.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that parent Jean Hawkins says the substitute told her eighth-grade son and a classmate last month that “black boys are nothing but trouble” and that he “was told to shoot you black boys.”

Springfield Public Schools spokesman Stephen Hall described the comments as “disturbing.”

He said the substitute is banned from working in the district.

The district also notified its contractor for substitute teachers, Penmac Education Staffing. Penmac said in a statement that there’s “no tolerance for such behavior.”

The substitute is suspended pending an investigation.

The substitute’s name hasn’t been released.
