(KTTS News) — The Ozark School District is looking for a new superintendent.

The school board hired the Missouri School Boards’ Association to handle the search.

The district hopes to do hold interviews with finalists before Christmas break.

Dr. Chris Bauman, who had served as superintendent since 2018, announced his retirement last spring at the April 13 board meeting.

Bauman, whose wife is battling terminal cancer, says the decision was best for his family.

At that same meeting, the board named Dr. Lori Wilson as the interim superintendent for the 2023-24 school year.

Wilson was serving as assistant superintendent of business and chief financial officer.

Press Release

The 2023-24 school year is underway for the Ozark School District, and following an August special Board of Education meeting, a search for a new superintendent is underway as well.

The Board of Education voted to contract the Missouri School Boards’ Association to facilitate the District’s superintendent search. The goal is to conduct formal interviews with finalists before Christmas break.

The board met with MSBA Lead Search Consultant Trent Grundmeyer in closed session Aug. 22, discussing the hiring plan and securing the timeline. The firm is starting the process by opening a stakeholder survey to gather feedback to see what qualifications the community wants to see in a superintendent. The survey is anonymous.

“Please share narrative insights and rank personal and professional priorities for the new superintendent. The search team will produce a general report based on the information gathered in this survey. The report will be shared with the board to advise them on what priorities the district and community stakeholders are looking for in a new leader,” according to the MSBA survey.

The MSBA superintendent hiring timeline is:

  • Aug. 29 – Sept. 17: Stakeholder survey open
  • Oct. 1 – Nov. 26: Application period
  • Nov. 28: Board reviews candidate pool
  • Dec. 5: Board screens candidates
  • Dec. 13: Formal interviews with finalists

The salary range to be posted for the position is $185,000 – $205,000.

Ozark Board President Sarah Adams Orr said Ozark is a great place to work and expects to have highly-qualified applicants.

“We, the board, believe it is important to include our Ozark staff, parents and community as we search for the District’s next leader,” Orr said. “The survey will serve as a foundation to the selection process for our District. Our goal is to be transparent and informative during this process to the entire Ozark community.”

Dr. Chris Bauman, who had served as superintendent since 2018, announced his retirement last spring at the April 13 board meeting. Bauman, whose wife is battling terminal cancer, said the late decision was best for his family.

At that same meeting, the board named Dr. Lori Wilson as the interim superintendent for the 2023-24 school year. Wilson was serving as assistant superintendent of business and chief financial officer.
