Trash Fire Set At Vacant Grain Elevator In Springfield

Firefighters were called to a fire in a vacant grain elevator near National and Chestnut in Springfield.

Crews with the Springfield Fire Department say someone set a trash fire in two 50-gallon barrels.

Smoke reached the third floor, and flames could be seen on the first floor of the building most well-known for its large mural painted on the north side.

Luckily, crews say there wasn’t significant damage.

The cause is still being investigated.  No injuries were reported.
