Police say a man is in custody after crashing a stolen car into a tree at Division and Johnston in Springfield Friday morning.
Officers say it's the same man who was caught trying to break into vehicles at the Walmart at Kearney and Glenstone earlier in the morning.
When police tried to talk to him, the man took off, then abandoned his vehicle in Greene County and stole a Jeep, hitting other vehicles in his path.
Authorities say he then ditched the Jeep and officers started to set up a perimeter near Division and Nettleton when an officer saw the suspect in a red vehicle.

Just as police started to pursue that car, it crashed into the tree.
An ambulance was called to the scene for the suspect, who was conscious and talking to rescuers.
Officers believe the same man stole the vehicle on Missouri Avenue, forcing a woman from the car.
There are no reports of any serious injuries.
