Flames shot out of the third floor of a motel near I-44 and Highway 65 in Springfield late Wednesday night, forcing 150 people to evacuate.
Fire crews were called to the Welcome Inn Nightly and Extended Stay in the 3500 block of east Evergreen at 11:15 p.m.
Witnesses say they saw the flames and started telling people to get out of the building.
Firefighters say one person was taken to the hospital with injuries that aren't considered life-threatening.
The American Red Cross has been helping those who don't have place to stay or need help with basic necessities.
