A high-speed chase ended early Wednesday morning with a man shot and killed by Greene County deputies after refusing to drop a loaded gun.
The chase started near Kansas Expressway and Kearney in Springfield at 2:25 a.m., and ended 16 minutes later on Highway YY near Maple Ridge Lane between Strafford and Rogersville.
Witnesses say they heard four to six gunshots.
No deputies were hurt, and those involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave.
Sheriff Jim Arnott says the suspect has been identified as William Ray Simcoe, Junior.
Simcoe was wanted for burglary and was a parole absconder who was previously on electronic monitoring.
Arnott says Simcoe, who was known to be armed and dangerous, is also believed to be involved in several crimes in Springfield and Greene County.
