Kick off the holiday season in downtown Springfield at the Mayor’s Annual Tree Lighting on Saturday, Nov. 22, in Park Central Square!
Gather around Springfield’s magnificent 48-foot holiday tree, meet Santa and Mrs. Claus in their cozy Christmas Tree House, and enjoy performances by local artists both live and on the jumbo screen from 5:45–8:30 p.m. This year, don’t miss the new Route 66 Merry Market, featuring local vendors offering baked goods, holiday décor, toys, popcorn, ornaments, and more along Park Central West from 5–8:30 p.m.
Families can also enjoy a reading of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas by the Mayor at 6 p.m., followed by selfies with Santa, free cookies and hot chocolate from 6:30–8:30 p.m., and free ice skating at Brightspeed Ice Park from 5–8:30 p.m. The celebration continues with free horse-drawn carriage rides courtesy of the Downtown Community Improvement District from 6–9 p.m., a lighted train ride on the SGF Holiday Express, and fun library activities at the Park Central Branch including crafts, LEGO building, and holiday displays. It’s an evening full of festive fun, community spirit, and holiday cheer you won’t want to miss!
