DESCRIPTION:Sertoma Chili Cook-Off is an annual fundraising event founded by the Springfield Area Sertoma Clubs. The event began in 1981\, and has become one of the biggest parties of the year in Springfield. Chili Cook-Off features dozens of area businesses serving a wide variety of chili recipes that attendees are able to sample and enjoy\, as well as voting for their favorite booth. A number of live bands and activities are hosted throughout the day alongside the delicious food and drinks. When people hear about Chili Cook-Off coming up— they know it’s the party to attend!\nProceeds from the event go to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield\, one of the many charities Sertoma Clubs have been proud to partner with and support. DESCRIPTION:Kids Take to the Runway to Fight Poverty\nIn preparation for back-to-school\, the Drew Lewis Foundation\, a nonprofit organization in the heart of Springfield MO\, is hosting it’s annual Fashion-Forward event\, a children’s fashion show downtown in the Historic Fox Theater. These children are modeling their new back-to-school clothes in order to help raise funds to fight poverty. In keeping with the theme of education\, the Drew Lewis Foundation provides education classes to those willing to learn the necessary lessons to raise themselves out of poverty. The money raised from this event not only helps to provide these lessons for the adults but also provides the back-to-school clothes and a backpack of school essentials for the children of those families. You can learn more about the event by visiting the Foundations website at Drewlewis.org.\nPurpose\nOver 40% of Springfield families are considered low-income. Through the Drew Lewis Foundation and its programs like RISE are building strong and sustainable communities by connecting families with services\, resources\, and opportunities. We provide continued personal support that empowers our families to lift themselves out of poverty and transform their lives as well as our community. With our Fashion Forward event\, we support children in our communities by helping to build their confidence with new clothes\, prepare them for the school year with a backpack of essentials\, and give them a place to feel confident and appreciated.\nEvent\nThe 5th Annual Fashion-Forward event will take place downtown on Friday\, August 2nd\, 2019. Doors will open at 6:00 pm at the Historic Fox Theatre on the square. In order to highlight the art of fashion\, and to share this experience with the most people\, this show will correspond with First Friday Artwalk. It will feature child models from families participating in Drew Lewis Foundation’s program RISE. All participating models will be gifted a “Back-to-School” outfit to wear for the event\, as well as a backpack and supplies. The event will include wine\, appetizers\, a silent auction\, and live music. You are invited to support our community’s children as they walk the runway and share their aspirations for the future.\nPricing\nTickets are $45 per person for general admission. Child sponsorship for the event is $100\, which includes their clothes\, backpack\, and a hygiene kit. There are additional options for sponsorship\, including $100 Bronze\, $250 Silver\, $500 Gold\, and $1000 Platinum. Sponsorships include tickets and pre-party wine event admission.
